Tropical Storm
Before wet, unpredictable weather hits, be sure to:
- Clean your gutters and downspouts of debris. Repair if they're loose or leaky.
- Check seals on doors and windows. Check siding for cracks. Have your roof checked for leaks.
- Take a look at street drains. If blocked with debris, call the city or county to have cleared.
- Check your yard for rain pooling. Trim trees that appear weak or prone to snapping.
- If your basement is susceptible to flooding, consider a sump pump. If you have one, inspect it.
- Check outdoor light fixtures and water spouts for rust or corrosion.
- Consider buying a portable emergency generator or whole-house standby generator.
- Cover and secure your outdoor furniture, firewood, grill, etc., with heavy tarp.
- If your home is at risk of flooding, have sandbags on hand to divert water.
- Assemble a disaster supply kit with food, water, first aid, important documents on thumb drives, etc.
